NEWS RELEASE
CHART INDUSTRIES DELIVERS ITS 200th ORCA SYSTEM
Garfield Heights, OH – August 19, 2005 – Chart Industries, Inc. (OTC: CIDI.OB) announced delivery of the 200th Orca unit manufactured in North America. The Orca product is an integral part of Chart's patented MicroBulk
system which provides fill-on-site convenience and efficiencies to end
users historically served by transportable gas cylinders. MicroBulk has
also proven to be a cost effective alternative in the small bulk market
for nitrogen, argon, oxygen and liquefied natural gas service.
The Orca unit is engineered with a submerged pump for inert service and is designed to integrate with Chart’s Perma-Cyl® storage vessel. The Perma-Cyl vessel accepts single-hose filling from the Orca’s tank and shuts down automatically when it’s full. Additionally, the Orca solution is flexible enough to deliver to small bulk tanks and vehicle tanks in LNG service. The third and final component of the Orca MicroBulk delivery system is a telemetry-ready Cyl-Tel® level gauge on the Perma-Cyl unit. Orca MicroBulk systems are now in operation in the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Bill Haukoos, Chart’s General Manager of Packaged Gases stated: “Since its inception nine years ago, the Orca MicroBulk delivery system has allowed distributors to deliver gas more efficiently and profitably to their customers. The primary benefit to the distributor is the rapid remote filling, typically with zero loss. A key advantage for the end user is the elimination of cylinder change-outs, which results in labor savings and higher gas quality. This system also frees the end user from residual losses, so all the gas they purchase is used. The mode change toward Perma-Cyl units and away from the traditional method of swapping full-for-empty cylinders is becoming a very popular trend.”
Tom Carey, President of Chart’s Distribution and Storage Group added: “Orca MicroBulk technology has allowed industrial gas distributors to increase the scope of their product offerings and reduce their distribution costs, which has led to increased profitability.”
